Near the Hotel Nacional at the corner of 21 and N streets in Vedado the sin: Salón Rojo beckons one to the most popular party club in the Cuban capital.
Red lihts rein over the decorations that simulate a starry niht with park lamps calling for an evening stroll. Very little strolling is done in this former casino of the Italian American mafia however. In a country where not knowin how to dance is almost a sin, Hotel Capri's Salon Rojo provides a space for those wishing to practice salsa steps to modern and retro sounds, as well as ways of moving that are constantly changing under the influence of world trends.
In 1961 the casino became a restaurant and two years later was refurbished as a cabaret. Since 2005 it has been promoted as a party hall that, without a doubt, colors Havana nights with a red low. Guests are greeted at the ate of the former casino by a sculpture of Venus made of Carrara marble, while lare murals picturing the main Havana buildings and photos of renowned figures of Cuban culture surround the stage. In many people's minds, Cuban nights are identified with shows such as Tropicana: beautiful girls resplendent in brilliant costumes moving to the beat of the most traditional rhythms of the island.
