The Lizt Alfonso ballet is composed only of women and a music band. It has been acclaimed in Cuba and abroad in the USA, Canada, Spain, New Zealand, Venezuela Colombia and France.
No matter what, dance has always been her destiny. More than once, when fortune tried to separate her from that world, Lizt Alfonso, charismatic dancer and choreographer, overcame all difficulties.
Perhaps the most difficult challenge came early when she failed the tests to enter ballet school. She was not yet nine and arrived home depressed. She told her mother, in the way only children can, that she wanted to o to sleep and never wake up. It was all over for her.
She recalls that moment vividly today and is convinced that meeting famous Cuban ballerina and coach Laura Alonso was a determining event.
"Laura gave me some other tests," says Alfonso, "and then told me 'you do not have the physical prerequisites, you cannot be a dancer. You understand this and still want to be one?' I said 'yes.'"
"She told me she was going to help me. 'Look, when everybody puts their feet up to this level, you have to get it higher. It will be difficult, you will cry, but if that is what you want, you must do more!' That day she taught me that if you give up, life will never forgive you."
