Winning five Grammy Awards was not a goal for Jesús Dionisio "Chucho" Valdés, they were only satisfactions in a long artistic career.
Years ago, when receiving his third Grammy, he stated that among the things giving him greatest joy were the honorary degrees awarded him by the universities of Victoria, Canada and Havana University.
Chucho considers the awaring of academic titles as recognition for the creation of new generations of musicians.
"I feel like a happyfather and have the confirmation that the honorary doctorated was given because they say I have helped to develop universal culture, not only the Cuban one".
He was also awarded the Félix Varela medal by the State Council of Cuba, and the keys to the cities of San Francisco, Los Angeles, Madison and Neuilly, USA; and Ponce, in Puerto Rico.
