Walking Tour of Camagüey
Camagüey, the capital of the Province of the same name in central Cuba, is the third largest city in the country and was founded around the year 1515. This may be a complicated city to navigate with its labyrinthine streets but it will never lose its colonial flavour.
1. Start at one of Cuba's largest museums, the Ignacio Agramonte Provincial Museum on Avenue de los Mártires, just north of the train station. The building started off as a cavalry barracks in 1848 and was converted into a museum in 1948. It has eclectic collection ranging from stuffed animals to archaeological finds and historical artifacts.
2. Walk south on Republica Street and take a right on Agramonte Avenue for two blocks to find the 18th Century Nuestra Señora de la Merced Church, an imposing frescoed building with an attached convent.
