A Walk through Old Havana
A great way to spend an afternoon in Havana is walking through Old Havana. There are literally hundreds of interesting places to see and visit but here are a few of my favourites.
Start at the Artisans Fair near the main Cathedral Plaza. From Wednesday to Saturday, you will find hundreds of vendors selling wood carvings, jewelry, clothing, and paintings. The oil paintings cover every style imaginable and are very inexpensive. Make sure to ask for a customs stamp on the back of the painting to avoid problems when you leave Cuba.
Meander through the Plaza de San Francisco and over to Plaza Vieja, one of the oldest public squares in Havana. At the far corner, you will find the Taberna de la Muralla (Calle San Ignacio at the corner of Muralla). This is a brew pub making great Austrian lager.
