The Yellow Submarine Is In Cuba

A new club dedicated to The Beatles has been opened in the Havana district of El Vedado, at the corner of 17th and 6th streets, just a few metres from the park containing the photogenic statue of John Lennon relaxing on a park bench.

The nightclub, El Submarino Amarillo (The Yellow Submarine) is a tribute to the song by the innovative British group that, 40 years after the band dissolved, still has many fans in Cuba and the world. The submarine theme is continued throughout the club, from the prevailing colours of yellow and blue to the many details like hatches and tubular shapes typical of subs.

The bar is decorated with album covers and visitors can read the lyrics of some of the lyrics from their songs on the walls. In addition to paying homage to the quartet, the bar is a great cultural hangout – especially for lovers of rock and oldies. The "Yellow Submarine" has free admission and is open Tuesday to Sunday from 2 pm to 8 pm, when visitors can enjoy songs and videos of The Beatles, as well as pop/rock bands of the 60s and 70s.

From 9 pm until 2 am, one can pay a cover in local currency and enjoy the music of different live bands every night. If it isn't already, The Yellow Submarine is bound to become one of the busiest venues on weekend nights in Havana.
